A cultural tour of the Malaysian portion of the island of Borneo
Borneo has a vibrant culture thriving in lush green forests two outstanding World Heritage Sites! This is but a glimpse of what the fantastic Island of Borneo has to offer. This program explores Malaysia’s semi autonomous regions of Sarawak and Sabah - both of which have maintained their indigenous culture. An artistically tailored program, Borneo’s Green Sarawak and Sabah takes us back to nature and the green, green home of mankind.
Day
01: Arrival Brunei - Welcoming Dinner
Meet and greet at Brunei International Airport and transfer
to hotel. Check-in starts from 1400 hrs. Evening, transfer
to local restaurant for welcoming dinner.
Overnight: Sheraton Hotel (2 nights) (D)
Day 02: Brunei Tour
Breakfast at hotel. Morning, we depart for
approximately 6 hrs Brunei City Tour and Malay
Water village Tour. Highlights include visits
to the Morning Market, Brunei Museum, Sultan
Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque, Hassanil Bolkiah
Mosque and photo stop at the entrance of the
biggest residential palace in the World – Istana
Nurul Iman which is the official residence
of His Majesty The Sultan of Negara Brunei
Darussalam. Lunch at a local restaurant included.
After lunch, continue with visit to the Royal
Regalia Museum that was built in 1992 to commemorate
the Silver Jubilee of His Majesty’s The
Sultan of Brunei accession to the throne in
1967. The museum houses a collection of royal
paraphernalia and also an exhibition on the
Constitution of the nation. After that, proceed
on a scenic boat ride around the biggest Malay
Water Village in the world and a visit to a
local home where you can witness the daily
livelihood of a typical villagers living in
houses on stilts on Brunei River. Local refreshments
will be served. Visit Yayasan Shopping Complex
before transfer back to your hotel. (B, L)
* Non-Muslims are not allowed to enter
the mosques on Thursday & Fridays and the tour
will only include tour of the garden area of
the two mosques.
Day
03: Brunei/ Mulu National Park
Early breakfast. Overland to Miri airport passing
through almost the entire length of this tiny
country. Other major towns passed will be that
of Seria and Kuala Beliat where petroleum and
gas exploration work can still be seen in and
around the area. Upon arrival in Miri airport,
take a flight straight to Mulu National Park – Malaysia’s
2nd World Heritage Site and check-in at the
resort and have lunch. Later proceed to Park
HQ for registration then walk along the plankwalk
through lowland and peat swamp forest to Deer
and Lang Caves. Explore first the small but
beautifully decorated Land Cave, then to the
world biggest cave passage at Deer Cave. Return
to the cave entrance and at sunset wait for
the exodus of millions of insect eating bats
for feeding. Torch our way back to Park HQ,
then to the resort for dinner.

Day
04: Mulu/ Kota Kinabalu
Breakfast at resort. Travel by open longboat
through rapids to visit Clearwater Cave and
Winds Cave. Explore King’s Chamber at
Wind Cave before witnessing South-East Asia
longest underground river system at Clearwater
Cave. Take a dip at Clearwater resurgent before
returning to the hotel for lunch and departure
to Mulu airport to board flight to Kota Kinabalu
via Miri. Upon arrival in Kota Kinabalu International
airport, transfer to hotel.

Day 05: Poring Hot Spring/ Canopy
Walk
Breakfast at hotel. Drive through
hill country to the southern boundary
of Sabah oldest park and Malaysia’s
1st World Heritage Site. Along
the way, photo stop at Nabalu fruits
and gifts market with Mount Kinabalu
at the backdrop. Continue to Poring
Hot Spring and experience walking
on a hanging bridge (canopy walk)
at a height of over 40 meters above
ground. Enjoy a refreshing dip
in the open-air hot spring bathtub
believe to have therapeutic benefits
for skin care. Lunch at Parks restaurant
before we proceed to Kinabalu Park
. Register and check-in at the
lodge. The rest of the day free
at own leisure. After dinner, free
to join the slides show and briefing
session meant for mountain climbers.

Day
06: Kinabalu Park / Kota Kinabalu
Breakfast at Park’s restaurant.
Proceed for jungle walk along one
of the more famous trail and later
continue with a guided Mountain
Garden walk. Lunch will be served
at Park’s Restaurant before
we visit Timpohon Gate, the starting
point for mountain climbing and
to enjoy magnificent view of the
valley. Return to Kota Kinabalu.

Day 07: Kota Kinabalu /
Turtle Island
Early breakfast. Transfer
to Kota Kinabalu International
airport for our flight
departure to Sandakan.
Upon arrival in Sandakan,
transfer straight to
jetty for boat departure
to Selingan or Turtle
Island Park. Check-in
at the hotel and have
lunch. The rest of
the day free at own
leisure or snorkel
in the warm water of
Selingan. In the evening,
after dinner, standby
for Park Ranger’s
call to witness turtle
laying eggs and to
relocate those eggs
into hatcheries. The
experience of releasing
new hatchelling into
the open sea might
also take place. We
return to our chalet
once we are done so
to allow more turtles
to come ashore to lay
their eggs without
being disturbed.

Day 08:
Sepilok/
Sukau
Early breakfast.
Return
by boat
to mainland
and proceed
to Sepilok
Orang Utan
Rehabilitation
Centre.
After registration,
proceed
to the
free roaming
area feeding
platform
for 1000
hrs feeding
of Orang
Utans.
At this
centre,
observe
man’s
closest
relative “the
Orang Utan” being
rehabilitated
to become
wild in
their natural
habitat
and experience
a walk
in the
Tropical
Lowland
Dipterocarp
Forest
of Borneo.
At 1145hrs
depart
Sepilok
for lunch
at local
restaurant.
Overland
to Sukau
village
and a short
boat ride
to our
river lodge.
Settle
down before
we depart
for late
afternoon
river cruise
along Menanggul
River,
a small
tributary
of the
Kinabatangan
in search
of primates
especially
the endemic
Proboscis
Monkeys,
Birds and
other wildlife.
Return
to our
lodge at
dusk for
dinner
and overnight
at Sukau.

Lake /

Wake up
to the
calls of
gibbons
and hornbills.
Early morning,
take a
river trip
to the
Ox-Bow
Lake to
observe
wildlife

Sabah.
Return
to lodge
for breakfast.
Free at
own leisure.
After lunch,
late afternoon,
another
river cruise
to search
for more
wildlife.
